HENGELO, Netherlands (AP)—Haile Gebrselassie need not worry about the crisp, clean air in the green heart of the Netherlands.

After deciding to skip the Olympic marathon in pollution-choked Beijing, the veteran will seek a spot on the Ethiopian 10,000-meter team for the Summer Games. He’ll compete Saturday at the FBK Games, hoping to set up a unique Olympic triple after winning the 10,000 at Atlanta in 1996 and Sydney in 2000.

“I will try to show that. Please give me a chance,” said the 35-year-old Gebrselassie, who is counting on a sub-27 minute race.
